Here we usually encounter Bottlenose dolphins, the rare Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins, and some shark species. From Arch Rock we head into the middle of the Bay where Pelagic seabirds are normally found some 7km from the shore! Out there our resident Brydes whales may be seen, as well as the Common dolphins, Southern Right dolphins and Humpback whales- during their season.
We then travel the bay to the point of Robberg Peninsula and get on the wild side. It is here we often see large groups of whales and pods of dolphins. As we cruise back along the inside of Robberg, we see the unique geology of the sea and usually can observe our growing Cape Fur Seal Colony.
Finally we head back along the Robberg beach, while a brief rundown on the history of the area is given. After passing the Beacon Island Hotel, built on the site of an original Whaling Station, we end the experience with an exhilarating return to the beach.
Please dress warmly, preferably in layers. During the winter months, it's a good idea to wear a long sleeved shirt, a sweatshirt and a jacket. If you are going out very early in the morning, a hat is always a good idea. Mittens or gloves are a bonus on chilly trips. If you don't have any, bring along an extra pair of socks!
Sunblock is a must, no matter what time of year it is. Put it on ahead of time, so you can wash your hands.
Keep in mind that you won't be able to feed the whales or dolphins. The Marine Mammal Protection Act prohibits any activity that would result in altering the behavior of the mammals.
